Stewed apples are a traditional favourite and they can be quite versatile as well, being eaten for breakfast with oats, porridge or yoghurt or as a dessert with a crumble on top or make it into a pie with ice cream or custard!
The warm aroma of the simmering cinnamon apples will have your mouth watering and in the cooler months, it’s definitely a comforting scent.
This recipe doesn’t take long and it’s simple, so I hope you enjoy making it as much as you do eating it. It's one of those recipes that you can have handy and make easily too.

Recipe Type: Dessert, Breakfast
Prep Time: 15 Mins
Cook Time: 30 Mins
Total Time: 45 Mins
6 Small Red Apples
1 tbs Brown Sugar
1 tbs Rice Malt Syrup
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1 1/2 cups of Water
• Fill a small to medium pot with 1 1/2 cups of water.
• Peel, core and dice the apples, then place them in the pot of water.
• Add the rest of the ingredients and transfer the pot to the stove on medium heat, allowing it to simmer for 20-30 minutes, or eyeball it.
• The apples will cook gently through and the liquid will slightly absorb and evaporate, leaving a thicker syrup. If you find that it's still a little watery, this is also okay as it still makes for a delicious sauce!
• Once satisfied with the consistency and texture of the apples, you can serve it warm from the pot for dessert or breakfast... or you can have it for those wintery late night snack moments.
